Sotis Ilayanhon. The traditional Sotis Balete dance was gracefully performed by the Manug Sotis of Barangays Oquendo and Guanko, showcasing the old rich cultural heritage and enduring traditions of the Municipality of Balete.
The “Art of Livelihood” Collection by Mecs V. Dela Cruz is a powerful showcase of creativity that beautifully intertwines fashion, culture, and community. This collection highlights the essence of local craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the everyday lives, traditions, and livelihoods of the people of Balete and the greater Aklan region.
“Panueo sa Baybayon” Collection by Lyndon Dalida Jr. is a compelling tribute to coastal life, deeply inspired by the fishing traditions of seaside communities. Rooted in the daily rhythms of the baybayon (shore), the collection captures the essence of livelihood, resilience, and the enduring connection between people and the sea.

In line with the celebration of Panubli Month, Balete Community College successfully concluded its culminating activity, “Tinda Panubli: BCC HM Kulinarya Showcase,” organized by the Municipal Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Heritage Office. The event served as a vibrant platform for students to showcase their culinary skills while highlighting the rich gastronomic heritage of the Baleten-on community.
Through a variety of traditional and innovative dishes inspired by local culture, students demonstrated creativity, craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for indigenous flavors and time-honored cooking practices. The showcase not only celebrated the artistry of local cuisine but also reinforced the importance of preserving and promoting cultural identity through food while showcasing the innovative development of culinary in the town.

The Local Government Unit of Balete officially marked the celebration of National Heritage Month through an enchanted and meaningful Panubli Kick-Off Ceremony, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and promoting the town’s rich cultural legacy. The event brought together local leaders, academic partners, and members of the community in a shared effort to honor Balete’s heritage and traditions.
The program formally opened with a warm and inspiring welcome message delivered by Hon. Prescilla Gale S. Calizo, Municipal Mayor, who emphasized the importance of safeguarding cultural identity and passing it on to future generations. She highlighted how initiatives like Panubli serve as a platform to revive traditions, celebrate local artistry, and strengthen community pride.
Following her address, Hon. Dexter M. Calizo, Vice Governor Province of Aklan, delivered a message of support, expressing his commitment to heritage-centered programs and underscoring the role of local governance in cultural preservation. This was followed by a message from Hon. Patrick F. Lachica, Vice Mayor who likewise conveyed his appreciation for the collective efforts of the LGU and its partners in sustaining Balete’s cultural initiatives.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the official launching of Sotis Balete, a revived traditional folk dance that reflects the history, identity, and artistic expression of the people of Balete. The launch was made possible through the collaboration with Aklan State University – New Washington Campus.
In response, Dr. Jeffrey A. Clarin, SUC President III, delivered a message of gratitude and partnership, commending the LGU of Balete for its proactive efforts in cultural preservation. He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote local heritage, research, and community engagement.
