Native palms on Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday or Linggo ng palaspas is an important day for Catholics around the world. It commemorates Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem. Back then, people waved palm leaves and branches as they welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem. It is also the start of the Holy week.
In the Philippines, people commemorate this event by bringing palm leaves on Palm Sunday Mass. Depending on the area, vendors sell different decorated palm leaves on streets and areas around the churches on Palm Sunday.

Generally, coconut fronds are used extensively in many parts of the country due to its widespread availability. Wild forms of coconut are recorded in Samar province while most of what we see are the cultivated types. Other native palms used are Caryota or fishtail palm, Arenga or Kaong palm, Areca or Nga-nga palm, Corypha or Buri palm etc ... Sometimes, different species of pitogo or cycads are also used for this event.

Ang Papet Pasyon ay hango sa buhay ng Panginoong Hesukristo mula sa kanyang pagpapakasakit, pagkamatay at muling pagkabuhay. Ang teksto nito ay batay sa children’s bible at pasyon mismo na ginamit ang sining ng papet upang maitampok ang mahahalagang tagpo sa Bibilya na angkop para sa mga bata.

Tara at maglaan ng sandali para sa pagninilay, pananampalataya at mula sa inyong mga tahanan ay gawing mas makahulugan ang paggunita ng Semana Santa.

Ang Papet Pasyon ay matutunghayan online sa darating na ika-1 ng Abril sa ganap na ika-6 ng gabi sa opisyal na page ng The Metropolitan Theater.
