The weeklong online accreditation was used to evaluate the programs of BSC to check whether the academic services are on par with the standards set forth for the state universities and colleges in the country.
Two programs underwent Level II accreditation while five programs were subjected to Level III. The highest level in the standards of AACCUP is Level IV, which is comparable to the leading programs in the country, such as those that are Centers of Excellence.
The two programs subjected to Level II accreditation were BS in Tourism Management and Bachelor in Secondary Education. Meanwhile, the programs submitted for Level III (Phase 2) accreditation are Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.
A total of 16 AACCUP accreditors coming from various universities in the country evaluated the programs, with Dr. Sanjay Claudio, Quality Assurance Director of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, as the overall coordinator of the accrediting team.
The accreditors evaluated the Level II programs in 10 areas, including vision, mission, goals and objectives, curriculum and instruction, faculty, library, research, extension, support to students, physical plant and facilities, laboratories, and administration.
On the other hand, accreditors for the Level III programs assessed the quality of academic services under four areas, namely instruction, faculty development, research, and extension.
According to President Djovi Durante, the BSCโs intention to subject the programs to higher levels of accreditation is a way to enhance the academic services of BSC and a testament to the continued dedication of BSC to quality and excellence.
โAccreditation is a way to determine our strengths and areas needing improvement so that we, as a college, can better serve our students and the community,โ President Durante said.
Dr. Ferdinand Bulusan, Director for Instruction, also explained that when BSC could pass the higher levels of accreditation, the accreditation will not only speak of quality academic services to students but also become BSCโs passport to open graduate programs and to exploring internationalization efforts.
Dr. Bulusan explained that when programs shall have passed the Level 3 (Phase 2), it means that the programs are โnearly comparable to Centers of Developmentโ.
Asst. Prof. Antonia Espaรฑol, College Quality Assurance Coordinator, said that BSC has prepared for this accreditation for almost a year.
โOur faculty members and administrative personnel have been preparing for this significant and major activity for almost a year now. We have had a series of trainings and meetings spearheaded by the Office of the Director for Instruction for us to ensure that the activity would gain satisfying results,โ Espaรฑol said.
Aside from collecting full documents based on the requirements of each level, the faculty members and admin staff also packaged the programs in the form of complete and lengthy narrative profiles with videos.
Espaรฑol added that many of the faculty members spent โsleepless nightsโ and did โovertime weekend tasksโ for at least a month prior to the accreditation schedule to fully prepare the documents.
According to the standards of the AACCUP, results shall be officially out within 3 to 4 months after its board of Directors has finally deliberated the results en banc. # #
