Da Seaman's Wife
Seaman's Wife POV
"You don’t look sick." / "Ang hilig mo naman magdahilan." 💔
If you are fighting Endometriosis, you’ve probably heard some version of this.
In the Philippines, women are raised to be matiisin—to quietly endure, to pop a painkiller, and to keep pushing through the pain so we don't worry our families or look maarte (dramatic). Globally, millions of women do the exact same thing, masking their agony just to survive a standard workday or a social gathering.
We become professional actors. We smile, we deliver results, and we say "I'm just tired" when someone asks how we are.
But behind closed doors? The mask comes off.
It’s the agonizing "Endo Belly" bloating that makes it painful to wear regular pants.
It’s the sharp, knife-like pelvic cramps that radiate down our legs.
It’s the deep, heavy exhaustion that sleep can never seem to fix.
Endometriosis is a full-body chronic disease, not a "bad period." Just because our illness is invisible doesn't mean our battle isn't real. To every sister fighting this silently in Manila, New York, London, or anywhere in between: We see you. Your pain is real, and you don’t have to hide it here.
