NEWS | TSSP-CSU studes, adviser join Transpo Con, present mobility studies in UPLB

The Transportation Science Society of the Philippines - Cagayan State University Chapter (TSSP-CSUC) participated in the annual transportation conference and presented their research at the University of the Philippines - Los Baรฑos on December 3-4, 2025.

Sixteen participants from the Civil Engineering department majoring in Transportation Engineering joined in the 31st Transportation Science Society of the Philippines Conference and the 4th Workshop on Young Researchers.

The two-day conference revolved around lectures and workshops related to the theme โ€˜Driving Smart Mobility Change: Innovations, Equity and Climate Resilience for a Connected Sustainable Futureโ€™.

It aimed to create solutions and innovations to address the nation's long-standing transportation problems, particularly traffic congestion.

Moreover, Engr. Ralph Angelo Estiller, faculty member, discussed their research projects before the experts, focusing on challenges in Tuguegarao City related to roads and airports.

Among the research presented is the โ€˜Impacts of Extreme Flooding Event on the Volume-to-Capacity Ratio of Major Road Networks: The Case of Tuguegarao Cityโ€™, authored by Engr. John Michael Casibang, Dr. Emer Quezon, and Engr. Estiller.

Furthermore, Keleph John A. Basmayor, TSSP-CSUC Vice President, emphasized the importance of participating in such an event to comprehend mobility systems and to create innovations.

โ€œJoining this conference is important because it allows us to understand how real mobility systems work beyond what we study in class. During the research workshop, we learned smart innovations that we can apply in our future career as a transportation engineer,โ€ Basmayor said.

Alumna of CSU and Associate Professor in UPLB, Dr. Ma. Bernadette Lim, served as one of the panelists, discussed the career opportunities and challenges in transportation during the research workshop and also assured to aid CSU transportation student-researchers in their studies.

TSSP-CSUC also helped design solutions to the challenges of mobility on a regional scale, organizing the first-ever Regional Transportation Science Engineering Conference held at the Red Eagle Gymnasium last February 27-28, 2025.
