Throwback to the very last time we went out of town for Holy Week ๐Ÿ˜…

Karlo and I were in Manila for The Lion King at Solaire and thought it would be such a waste to just go home and spend the long holiday there. So we dragged two friends to La Union only to get stuck on the road to Elyu for almost 10 hours on Good Friday ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

Safe to say, I spent most of our time there in a bad mood (my sincerest apologies to the 3 men I was with ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ). I just wasnโ€™t feeling the crowd and all the noise in San Juan, so I started looking for alternative things to do.

Good thing one of my friends suggested Bacnotan, just a short 20-minute tricycle ride from San Juan. We found a beach all to ourselves. No shops, no restos, no crowds. Just quiet. A stark contrast to the chaos in San Juan.
This was back in 2018, so Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s still like this today but Iโ€™d really love to go back to Elyu. Just never again during Semana Santa ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

We set out for the legendary Lan Fong Yuen at its original location in Central but HK shopping has a way of rewriting your plans, and we found their Tsim Sha Tsui branch along our route. What was supposed to be a light bite quickly escalated into a full-table spread too much for two.

๐Ÿ›Beef Brisket with Rice & Curry. Tender, melt-in-your-mouth brisket swimming in a rich, aromatic curry sauce that begs for an extra bowl of rice.

๐ŸฅฏCrisp Bun with Butter & Condensed Milk. Simple, nostalgic, and perfectly toasted. The ultimate crunch-to-sweet ratio.

๐ŸฅชKaya French Toast. Golden, eggy, and oozing with that rich coconut-pandan goodness. Itโ€™s a classic for a reason.

๐ŸœScallion Chicken Fillet with Noodles. The savory MVP. That ginger-scallion oil is pure liquid gold over springy instant noodles.

๐ŸฅฏPork Chop Bun. Juicy, seasoned to perfection, and tucked into a soft, toasted roll.

๐Ÿฅ›You canโ€™t visit the OG creators of โ€œSilk Stockingโ€ milk tea and not get the HK Style Milk Tea, incredibly smooth with that signature bold tea hit. ๐ŸฅคFor something refreshing to cut through the richness, the Salted Lime Soda is an absolute must.

๐Ÿ‹โ€๐ŸŸฉWe couldnโ€™t leave empty-handed. We ended up hoarding bottles of their Salted Limes and some merch to bring a piece of this HK institution back home with us. ๐Ÿ‹โœจ

Whenever we visit Hong Kong, we always try to leave a little room for places that feel more local, those quiet corners that tell a different story about the place.

We finally made our way to The Mills last August, a spot weโ€™d been curious about for a while. We originally came for the Accidentally Wes Anderson Exhibition, but as soon as we stepped inside, we realized the building itself was part of the experience.

The Mills was once a textile factory from the 1950s, and walking through it now feels like stepping into a thoughtful blend of past and present. The old industrial structure is still there, but itโ€™s been reimagined with galleries, cozy cafรฉs, and small artisanal shops showcasing local creativity.

We spent the afternoon slowly wandering from floor to floor, pausing for dim sum, browsing through little stores, and just taking in the quiet, creative atmosphere. It certainly didnโ€™t hurt that it was the weekend, and the locals had brought their fur babies along too. ๐Ÿพ

Itโ€™s a breezy 12-minute walk or a quick ride to 45 Pak Tin Par Street.
