On June 24, 2026, JCI Duwaling proudly completed the second leg of our Graduation Toga Distribution Project through the turnover of a new set of graduation togas to Davao Oriental State University.

For this second leg, we were honored to coordinate with our daughter chapter, JCI Mati, as we continue our shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students in our communities.

This initiative reflects our belief that every deserving student should be able to celebrate their graduation with confidence, dignity, and joy. Every toga represents hope, perseverance, and the fulfillment of a dream.

Our heartfelt gratitude to the Davao Oriental State University Student Council for welcoming this initiative and partnering with us in making this project possible.

This milestone reflects JCI Duwaling’s continuing commitment to empowering the youth through meaningful service, and we look forward to reaching even more students and helping them celebrate one of life’s most important achievements.

At approximately 7 am on June 18, our convoy rolled out of Davao City. We had a long, exhausting day ahead of us, but our mission was clear: get clean water and essential relief directly to the families who need it most.

Our first stop was General Santos City, where we unloaded an initial 200 cases of bottled water. From there, we pushed forward to Sapu Masla to distribute another 70 cases. Afterward, we were incredibly blessed to be welcomed by former Board Member of Sarangani Province Glan, Atty. Cyril Yap. He accommodated our entire team with a fiesta like food preparation, and we absolutely have to give a special shoutout to the unforgettable Humba Glan!

Atty. Cyril is the husband of our Senate National GLC Atty. Leah Librado Yap. We would also like to highlight that Davao City Councilor Pamela Librado Morata, who generously donated food packs for this mission, is the sister of our very own Senator Atty. Leah. Sharing this warm lunch with their family gave us a much needed moment to gather our strength before heading deeper into the disaster zone.

By early afternoon, we arrived at an entire sitio in Barangay Lago. Seeing the sheer relief on the faces of the residents as we handed over the supplies was incredibly humbling. But it was our next stop at Barangay Mudan that truly put everything into perspective.

Right in the middle of our distribution, while we were actively handing out goods to the residents, the earth decided to remind us of its raw, untamed power. At exactly 2:57 PM, a 5.2 magnitude aftershock struck. Because we were standing so incredibly close to the very source of the fractures, the ground did not just shake; it heaved violently beneath our feet. For a terrifying, breathless moment, time seemed to stop. Our volunteers were thrust into a first hand experience of the exact waking nightmare these families have been surviving day and night. It rattled us as we got to feel an unforgettable glimpse into their daily reality. But once the brutal tremors ceased and we made sure everyone was safe, we steadied our hands, resumed the distribution, packed up, and headed to our final stop, another deeply affected community back in Barangay Lago, to finish handing out the remaining supplies as the sun began to set.

We are sharing this timeline with you because none of these: the miles driven, the communities reached, the comfort delivered, would not have been possible without your backing.

As a coordinating host for Oplan Kaagapay, working alongside the Philippine JCI Senate Foundation and JCI Senate Davao del Norte, we at JCI Duwaling are humbled for the chance to step up as the lead host for the initiative. It is important to note that the program is not just a one time initiative of JCI Duwaling, but a 7 year long term flagship program of the Duwaling ladies, an advocacy close to our hearts.

Our primary focus for this campaign is sustainable disaster response. Even before this disaster hit, the province relied heavily on deep well systems for their water. Now, because power has not yet been fully restored, the electric water pumps are out of commission, leaving communities with little to no access to clean drinking water.
Being on the ground, we witnessed this dire need firsthand. This is exactly why our efforts of pooling funds for more ceramic water filters are a continuing effort. A bigger filtration system is currently being negotiated to amplify the effect and cater to the rapidly increasing need for clean and safe water. These solutions are not just temporary relief; they are a long term lifeline.

Please note that this is only the first leg of our response. Once the bigger filtration solution is fully deployed, we will be expanding our reach to help more communities, not just in Glan, Sarangani, but also in Jose Abad Santos, which is another badly hit province.

In line with this, we want to extend a special and immense thank you to our partner, Clean Water International Philippines. Thank you for collaborating with us to utilize this incredible technology. Your support is allowing us to cater to these communities, ensuring that everyone, especially the young children, can have access to safe, potable water during this critical time.
We also want to send our deepest appreciation to the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Sarangani Chapter for their solidarity and support on the ground.

Because of your collective generosity, these filters and other vital supplies are now in the hands of the people who need them most. We want to send our deepest gratitude to the groups who provided these lifelines:

Organizations & Groups 🀝

JCI Duwaling: Delivered units of ceramic water filters as part of the sustainable response.

Office of Davao City Councilor Pamela Librado Morata: Offered food packs

Philippine JCI Senate Foundation: Provided sets of trapal.

JCI Senate Davao del Norte: Contributed to the logistics and Trapal.

Atty. Leah Librado Yap and Friends: Donated food packs, tents, solar lights, and bottles of water.

Integrated Bar of the Philippines Sarangani Chapter with YAP-BANSILOY LAW OFFICES: Contributed food packs.

Anakbayanihan Foundation: Supplied cases of drinking water and solar lights.

We also want salute the individuals who personally sent in generous financial contributions through the efforts of the Duwaling ladies.

A huge thank you to:
Friends and families of Sen Leah Librado-Yap
Grace and Wes Kreeger

To everyone on this list: thank you. You were right there in the trucks with us. You brought shelter, light, food, and most importantly, a sustainable source of clean water to people going through an incredibly terrifying time. We absolutely could not have done this without you.
