Where Did You Go?

We used to fill rooms with laughter
that did not ask permission to exist
it spilled, wild and uncontained,
like we believed the world was ours to take.

You were fire then,
not the kind that warms a home quietly,
but the kind that dances,
refuses walls, refuses names.

Now I see you in fragments
in photos with careful smiles,
in messages sent between chores,
in voices softened by someone else’s needs.

And I wonder, gently,
not with blame but with ache
where did you tuck away
the girl who dreamed in her own name?

Did she fold herself into small corners
between lullabies and laundry?
Did she trade her wild laughter
for a quieter kind of love?

I am told this is fullness,
that this is what it means to become
to be needed in ways that leave no room to wander,
but why does it feel like losing?

I miss the way we were not needed,
only wanted, not anchors,
not vessels, just women,
whole and blazing.

And still, I hold you kindly
in the shape you are now,
because love, I know,
can look like surrender.

But somewhere beneath the hush
of your new life,
I hope she still breathes
that fierce, laughing girl

waiting, not gone,
just quiet, just waiting
to be called back
by her own name.
