The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Batan, Aklan conducts training on simple financial recording for representatives of SLP associations in the municipality.
The training aimed to enhance the participants’ capacity in financial management, particularly in the proper use of cashbooks, receipts, and other financial forms and processes.

Bayanihan spirit jumpstarts livelihood project in Balete, Aklan
The spirit of bayanihan came alive in Barangay Oquendo, Balete, as members of the Oquendo Piña Fiber Association worked hand in hand to prepare their upland site for a proposed pineapple production project under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) – Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA).
Members of the association volunteered to clear the designated project site located in an upland area. Despite the challenging terrain and limited accessibility to the business center, they worked together to remove tall grasses, old trunks, and branches to prepare the land for the upcoming plantation.
The initiative also received strong support from the Barangay Council of Oquendo, which provided logistical assistance during site preparation.
While waiting for project funding, the association participated in a series of capacity-building training sessions focused on organizational development, leadership, and financial literacy. These activities aimed to strengthen their management skills, enhance teamwork, and prepare them to sustain the project once it begins. With a few members already skilled in pineapple farming, the sessions provided valuable knowledge to support both productivity and unity within the association.
The proposed pineapple production project seeks to uplift the economic well-being of its members while fostering unity and peace in the community. For the Oquendo Piña Fiber Association, the cleared upland now stands as a symbol of shared effort and a hopeful beginning toward a more sustainable future./dswd6/cdf/Glory Mae Panase
