Despite facing technical difficulties and performing for the second time, College of Teacher Education (CTE) LIYAB bested six rivals and attained first place in live band competition, ICCAC-CAF '26, SLSU Gymnasium, April 23.

‘LIYAB’ powered through their rendition of “Umaapoy” by The Boyfriends, drew thunderous cheers from the packed crowd, winning over the panel of judges.

Following closely behind, College of Administration, Business, Hospitality, and Accountancy (CABHA) ‘Beethoven’s Blood Band’ claimed second place, while College of Engineering (CEn) ‘Fuels’ performance earned their way to third.

ICCAC-CAF '26 | LIYAB blazes path to Live Band victory

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) Torchbearers LIYAB bagged 1st place in Live Band Category during the Culture and Arts Festival (CAF) held at the Southern Luzon State University Gymnasium, April 23.

The band delivered a blazing performance that captured the disco vibe of the ’70s, highlighted by their soulful rendition of "Umaapoy" by The Boyfriends. However, their march toward victory was faced a sudden halt due to technical issues. Displaying true resilience, they bounced back, went out and gave another performance that dominated the stage to secure the top spot.

“Nasaktan kami noong una, syempre,” Carlos Dimaranan shared regarding the incident. “Wala naman dapat isisi, nangyari na eh, bumawi na lang kami, redemption nga kung baga. Sobrang proud din ako at support din ang CTE, sobrang proud din kami na nakuha namin ang ginto despite sa nangyari, and I'm proud to be a Torchbearer.”

This triumph marks another milestone for College of Teacher Education (CTE) proving that their passion and talent remain unshaken as they continue to keep the torch burning bright.
