STARTUPISLAND.PH Puts the Spotlight on Investment Readiness

Startups in Central Visayas know how to build. The next challenge is learning how to turn what they’ve built into investable ventures.

On August 15, The Company CEBU hosted the STARTUPISLAND.PH Masterclass on Startup Valuation and Investment Readiness, where founders confronted the realities of turning prototypes into fundable businesses.

Organized by DTI Region 7 Central Visayas, the session drew on the expertise of Carlo Chen-Delantar of Gobi Partners and Ryan Tambis of R Tambis Ventures, who guided participants through the mechanics—and the mindset—of investment. The discussion moved beyond spreadsheets into the strategic art of financial storytelling, across defining KPIs that matter, tying valuations to milestones, crafting fundraising campaigns, and keeping composure under the pressure of investor Q&As.

For many Central Visayas founders, this is the critical gap. The region already produces ingenuity in abundance as startups design, code, and solve real problems with skill. Yet in the global marketplace, technical brilliance alone rarely secures capital. What does is the ability to frame growth in a language investors trust. That is precisely where SIPH steps in.

The masterclass forms part of a larger ambition: to evolve Cebu’s startup and innovation ecosystems from promising to truly investor-ready. It signals a region no longer defined solely by outsourcing or tourism, but one intent on cultivating ventures that can compete—and win—on bigger stages.

By embedding valuation into the startup conversation, DTI Region 7 is going beyond teaching founders how to just pitch. It is equipping them to translate innovation into capital, and capital into scale. For a region on the rise, that may be the difference between being seen as an emerging hub and becoming recognized as a force in the Philippine startup scene.
