One of the scariest parts of nursing school? Dosage calculations.
It can feel intimidating — all those conversions, formulas, and numbers that don’t seem to stick. But the truth is, dosage calculations aren’t about being “good at math.” They’re about understanding how to keep your patients safe through accurate medication administration.

Here are a few reminders to make your review easier:
• Always identify the given units — is it mg, mcg, or mL?
• Convert properly before solving. (1 g = 1000 mg, 1 mg = 1000 mcg)
• Use the formula method:
➤ Desired / Have × Quantity = Dose to be given
• And finally, double-check your answer — accuracy saves lives.

The more you practice, the more natural it becomes. Don’t let numbers scare you — let them guide you toward safer nursing care.

ACE inhibitors (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors) are commonly used in managing hypertension and heart failure. They work by blocking the enzyme that converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II — a substance that narrows blood vessels. By doing so, ACE inhibitors help lower blood pressure and ease the workload of the heart.

Common examples include:
• Captopril
• Enalapril
• Lisinopril

Side effects to remember:
Dry, persistent cough, dizziness, fatigue, headache, and altered taste (metallic).

Adverse effects:
Angioedema, hyperkalemia, hypotension, renal impairment, and neutropenia.

A simple tip to remember: if a drug ends with -pril, it’s likely an ACE inhibitor!

If this post helped you understand ACE inhibitors better, imagine having all your pharmacology lessons simplified this way.
Our Pharmacology Digital Notes come with 90+ pages of visuals, mnemonics, and easy-to-understand summaries — made specifically for nursing students preparing for exams or the PNLE.

Study smarter, not harder.

Cranial Nerves are the twelve pairs of cranial nerves transmit motor or sensory messages (or both) primarily between the brain or brain stem and the head and neck. And they control everything from your senses to your facial expressions! Let’s break them down in a way that’s easier to remember 👇

SENSORY NERVES (feel, see, hear, smell, taste!)

1️⃣ Olfactory (I) – Smell
2️⃣ Optic (II) – Vision
8️⃣ Vestibulocochlear (VIII) – Hearing and balance

MOTOR NERVES (move your eyes, face, and body!)

3️⃣ Oculomotor (III) – Eye movement, pupil constriction, lens accommodation
4️⃣ Trochlear (IV) – Eye movement (downward and outward)
6️⃣ Abducens (VI) – Eye movement (outward)
1️⃣1️⃣ Accessory (XI) –Neck and shoulder movement
1️⃣2️⃣ Hypoglossal (XII) – Tongue movement

BOTH SENSORY & MOTOR (the multitaskers!)

5️⃣ Trigeminal (V) – Facial sensation + chewing
7️⃣ Facial (VII) – Facial expressions, taste (anterior 2/3 of tongue), salivation
9️⃣ Glossopharyngeal (IX) – Taste (posterior 1/3 of tongue), swallowing, salivation
1️⃣0️⃣ Vagus (X) – Parasympathetic control (thoracic and abdominal organs), throat sensation

Studying for hours without rest only leads to burnout.

Isipin mo na muscle din yung motivation mo to study. Kapag pinilit mo siyang gamitin nang walang pahinga, mapapagod at manghihina rin siya. But if you give it the right breaks, you’ll study longer and focus much stronger.

That’s why it helps to study in short, focused intervals instead of forcing long, exhausting sessions. Try breaking your review into 25–30 minute chunks with 5-minute breaks in between.
This is called the Pomodoro Technique.

Work smarter, not harder.
