THIMBLE JELLYFISH SWARM ALERT

The Local Government Unit of Romblon hereby advises all residents, tourists, fisherfolk, resort operators, boat operators, and beachgoers to exercise caution due to the reported presence of Thimble Jellyfish in several coastal areas within the municipality.

Thimble jellyfish are small marine organisms that may cause skin irritation, itching, redness, and painful stings upon contact. Swarms are commonly influenced by sea currents, weather conditions, and seasonal marine activity.

In view thereof, the public is advised to observe the following precautionary measures:

1. Avoid swimming or wading in affected coastal areas when jellyfish presence is visible or reported.

2. Wear protective swimwear or rash guards when entering the water.

3. Closely supervise children and avoid unnecessary exposure to seawater in affected areas.

4. Refrain from touching jellyfish, whether alive or washed ashore.

5. Immediately rinse affected areas with seawater and seek medical attention if severe reactions occur.

6. Resort owners, tourism establishments, and barangay officials are encouraged to monitor their respective coastal areas and immediately report sightings or incidents to the concerned authorities.

The PCG- ROMBLON and Municipal Tourism Office are continuously monitoring the situation for public safety.

𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗡: Nagsagawa ng courtesy visit ang Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team sa tanggapan ng Punong Bayan bilang bahagi ng Monitoring & Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol (MELLPI Pro) ngayong Mayo 26, 2026.

Malugod na tinanggap ni OIC SB Cabo Faigao kasama ang mga department heads ng LGU Romblon ang bumubuo ng Regional Nutrition Team na sina Keren Faye Gaya, Madelyn Altabano, at Diane Abegail Intal, kasama ang Provincial Health Office Nutrition Team na sina Estella Galindez, Edrilon Silanga, at Shyrose Mayuga.

Kaugnay nito, kinilala ang LGU Romblon bilang Provincial Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Committee sa 2026 MELLPI Pro. Pinarangalan din si Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Morena Rabino bilang Provincial Outstanding MNAO.

Ang mga pagkilalang ito ay patunay ng patuloy na pagtutulungan ng lokal na pamahalaan at mga katuwang na ahensya sa pagpapatupad ng mga programang nakatuon sa pagpapabuti ng nutrisyon at kalusugan ng mamamayan.

𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗡𝗔𝗡: Nagsagawa ng courtesy visit ang SIKAT, Inc. kay Hon. Mayor Atty. Gerard S. Montojo upang talakayin ang mga programang nakatuon sa pangangalaga at rehabilitasyon ng yamang-dagat sa Bayan ng Romblon.

Sa isinagawang pagpupulong, tinalakay ang pagsuporta ng SIKAT, Inc. sa pagbuo ng isang mas pinalakas at mas komprehensibong Coastal Resource Management Plan na nakabatay sa siyentipikong pag-aaral at lokal na kaalaman ng komunidad. Kaugnay nito, magsasagawa mula Mayo hanggang Hunyo 2026 ng biophysical assessments sa mga mangrove forests, seagrass beds, reef areas, at fish sanctuaries sa buong bayan katuwang ang Oceanus Conservation.

Layunin ng mga assessment na makalikom ng mahahalagang datos upang makabuo ng mga evidence-based tools para sa pangunguna ng komunidad sa pangangalaga at rehabilitasyon ng mga coastal habitats. Inaasahang makatutulong ito sa mga maliliit na mangingisda at mga pamilyang umaasa sa yamang-dagat sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalakas ng proteksyon laban sa epekto ng climate change, pagpaparami ng yamang-dagat, at pagpapabuti ng food security sa Bayan ng Romblon.

Ang naturang proyekto ay bahagi ng mas malawak na Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) Programme na pinondohan ng UK Government’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office sa pamamagitan ng Blue Planet Fund.
