🇬🇧 We set off into the mountains of southern Saudi Arabia, into the region around Abha – close to the highest peak in the country, Jabal Sawda.

The higher we climbed, the more the world changed. At first, clear views and wide valleys, then suddenly fog, heavy clouds, and eventually no horizon at all – just grey and dampness hanging in the air, with real rain setting in at times.

Before long, visibility was completely gone. And then they appeared: baboons sitting along the road, screaming and watching us emerge from the mist, as if this was their own world.

Luckily, we were invited by the local motorcycle club in Abha, where we spent a few days, met other motorcycle travelers, and waited out the bad weather together.

🇩🇪 Wir sind in die Berge von Süd-Saudi-Arabien aufgebrochen, in die Region rund um Abha – ganz in der Nähe des höchsten Bergs des Landes, Jabal Sawda.

Je höher wir kamen, desto mehr hat sich die Welt verändert. Erst klare Sicht und weite Täler, dann plötzlich Nebel, feuchte Wolken, und irgendwann kein Horizont mehr – nur noch Grau und Nässe, irgendwann auch richtiger Regen.

Die Sicht war irgendwann komplett weg. Dafür kamen sie: Affen, die an der Straße saßen, schrien und uns aus dem Nebel heraus beobachteten, als wäre das hier ihre ganz eigene Welt.

Zum Glück wurden wir in Abha vom lokalen Motorradclub eingeladen und haben dort ein paar Tage verbracht und auch andere Motorradreisende getroffen.

🇬🇧 From Riyadh we headed south

Endless kilometers through the desert — sometimes the sand was more reddish, sometimes more yellow, but most of the time it was windy and very sandy 😬
Our rims basically got sandblasted, and camping was just as glamorous… we woke up in the morning looking like breaded schnitzels 😝

And then suddenly, there they are: these Balancing Rocks 🪨
Every boulderer’s heart skips a beat here 😍
For example, this one looks like a giant egg, casually balancing on its tiny base — very, very cool 😎

🇩🇪 Von Riyadh Richtung Süden.

Endlose Kilometer durch die Wüste, manchmal war sie eher rötlich, mal eher gelb aber meist war es windig und sehr sandig 😬 Unsere Felgen wurden gesandstrahlt und auch zum Campen war es herrlich, wir sind morgens aufgewacht wie panierte Schnitzel 😝

Und dann plötzlich stehen sie da: diese Balancing Rocks. 🪨
Jedem Boulderer geht da das Herz auf 😍
Hier z.B. großes Ei, das völlig entspannt auf seiner kleinen Basis balanciert – sehr sehr cool 😎
