🚨 Football Australia hands down strict bans in A-League betting scandal 🚨
Football Australia has taken a firm stance against corruption, banning four players from all football-related activities for several years following their involvement in a serious betting scandal linked to deliberate yellow cards in A-League matches.
Former Macarthur Bulls players Clayton Lewis and Kearyn Baccus have each been handed five-year bans after admitting they accepted payments of A$10,000 to influence betting outcomes. Both players avoided criminal convictions but were fined and have accepted 200 hours of unpaid football-related community service to reduce their suspensions by one year.
Meanwhile, former Western United midfielder Riku Danzaki and amateur player Yuta Hirayama received even harsher seven-year bans after being convicted of fraud and corruption charges, which included placing bets tied to deliberate yellow cards.
Football Australia confirmed that all four players accepted the sanctions and chose not to appeal, sending a strong message that integrity remains non-negotiable in the sport. ⚽️⚖️
