What becomes immediately visible through Value Stream Mapping is the gap between value-added time and total lead time. In many manufacturing environments, only a small fraction of the total time truly adds value, while the majority is consumed by waiting, excessive inventory, rework, unbalanced workloads and poorly synchronized information flow.
