Pleased to share our latest Policy Brief entitled “Debt Management & Fiscal Security in Pakistan.”

Developed by the School of Economics, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, in collaboration with BNU Center for Policy Research (BCPR) and supported by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), this policy brief examines the challenges of rising public debt and their implications for Pakistan’s fiscal stability and economic growth.

The brief highlights key issues, including increasing debt-servicing costs, persistent fiscal deficits, external financing vulnerabilities, and limited fiscal space for development spending. It also offers evidence-based policy recommendations to strengthen debt sustainability, improve fiscal governance, and enhance economic resilience.

I sincerely thank Dr. Zubair Iqbal, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Bahauddin Zakariya University, for his encouragement and support in making this initiative possible. I am also grateful to all colleagues, researchers, and policy experts whose valuable contributions enriched this work.

Evidence-based policymaking and prudent debt management are essential for ensuring Pakistan’s long-term fiscal security and sustainable economic development.
