Mera Ghar-Net successfully organized a comprehensive capacity-building training for Gender Desks across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen institutional responses to gender-based violence (GBV) and advance women’s rights. The program brought together officers, stakeholders, and representatives from various departments for learning, dialogue, and strategic action. Mr. Saleh Muhammad, Director of the KP Social Welfare Department, inaugurated the session by reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to gender equality and the vital role of Gender Desks in protecting women and girls.

The training covered key areas including a detailed understanding of GBV, debunking myths, and reviewing pro-women legislation in Pakistan. Participants explored the Role and Responsibilities of Gender Desks, addressing challenges like resource constraints and coordination gaps while learning best practices. Sessions also highlighted the State’s Responsibility for women’s participation, prevention, and protection, with insights from institutions such as NCHR, KPCSW, and others, followed by practical guidance on Ensuring Access to Justice through survivor-centered approaches.

The program concluded on a motivating note, with participants expressing renewed commitment and enhanced capabilities to combat GBV. This initiative by Mera Ghar-Net marks a significant step toward institutional strengthening and responsive governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, promoting safer communities where women’s safety, dignity, and rights are prioritized.

Two productive and impactful meetings were successfully held today at the Social Welfare District Office with Mr. Shohaib Khan to advance advocacy and support for the transgender community. The meetings were graced by the presence of Ms. Rukhshanda Naz, Managing Trustee of Mera Ghar - NET, and Nosheen Rh, Legal Officer. During the session, transgender participants proudly showcased their beautiful handmade products, reflecting their remarkable creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.

Mera Ghar - NET demonstrated its strong commitment by offering a one-week free skill development training course specially designed for transgender individuals. They also generously extended pro-bono legal services through their dedicated lawyers to facilitate the official registration process. Fruitful discussions were also held with ITCS, which operates seven skill centers across the region and expressed keen interest in collaborating on tailored skill development programs for the transgender community.

These back-to-back meetings mark a significant milestone in promoting skill development, legal recognition, and social inclusion for the transgender community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Social Welfare District Office for hosting and facilitating these important discussions. Together, we are taking concrete steps toward building a more inclusive and supportive society.
