Cal. 28/255 C automatic lever movement stamped with the Geneva seal, 36 jewels, black ribbed dial, applied luminous gold baton numerals, aperture for date, water-resistant-type case of typical form, gold bezel, stainless steel and gold Patek Philippe bracelet and deployant clasp.
Reference 3700-11 AJ was first introduced in 1980. The estimated total production of this model is only 200 examples.
Previously unknown to the public, this watch is graced by the extremely rare full set of boxes and papers. The combination of a rare feature and a small production makes the offered lot one the rarest early Nautilus model ever offered.

The Nautilus model is without a doubt, one of Patek Philippe’s most iconic watch references ever produced. The very first reference, 3700, embodied every aspect of Patek Philippe’s design philosophy, from the bold yet elegant curves, to the contrasting finishes of the case, and even the delicate grooves of the dial. The result was sublime. An ultimate collaboration between Philippe Stern and Gerald Genta, the Nautilus’ appearance was inspired by the robust proportions of maritime portholes.

It is hard to qualify the many ways in which the Nautilus has changed the horological world. Its influence extends far and wide, and has forever changed the way we view a ‘sports watch’. At the time of production, reference 3700/1 retailed for $3100 USD, which was considered a high sum. Today, the Nautilus has become a true collector’s item, becoming increasingly valuable over the years.

The Cosmograph Daytona, introduced in 1963, was designed to meet the demands of professional racing drivers. With its highly reliable chronograph and bezel with tachymetric scale, it allows drivers to perfectly measure average speeds up to 400 kilometres or miles per hour, as they choose. An icon eternally joined in name and function to the high-performance world of motor sport. The Cosmograph Daytona was designed as a high-precision personal timing tool for drivers in endurance races. Rolex resorted to pioneering yet elegantly simple engineering, by incorporating fewer components than in a standard chronograph and enhance reliability. The central sweep seconds hand allows an accurate reading of 1/8 second, while the two counters on the dial display elapsed time in hours and minutes. Drivers can accurately map out their track times and tactics without fail: the Daytona is a watch for winners.

The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with calibre 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Its architecture incorporates far fewer components than a standard chronograph, thereby enhancing the movement’s reliability. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 4130 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for highprecision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. The chronograph movement features a Parachrom hairspring, offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations.
