Local Design Circle

Local Design Library Sprint este un format nou, gândit pentru cei care vor să lucreze direct cu arhiva Local Design Library.

O zi de lucru, de la 11:00 la 18:00. Acces complet la bibliotecă, timp de căutare, timp de selecție și timp de producție. Alegi un subiect, un tip de carte, un tip de conținut sau un element care te interesează, cauți prin cărți, scanezi, fotografiezi, aduni informație și o transformi într-un afiș.

Este un workshop de o zi, în care lucrezi sub îndrumarea echipei proiectului. Mentori: Andrei Grosu, Artemisa Pascu și Ana Chiță. La final ai un afiș gata de publicat. Rezultatul poate fi și animat, dar o variantă statică este obligatorie, pentru că afișul va fi publicat în social media.

Accesul este gratuit, pe bază de selecție de portofoliu.

A typographic installation on the diacritics that shape our common language.

Built around a shared alphabet — and the question of what happens when two alphabets try to become one. .kot.typo and Andrei Grosu each designed their own typeface from scratch. Two designers, two languages, two distinct graphic sensibilities. Using a custom-built digital tool, they combined them: segments of Ola’s letterforms meeting segments of Andrei’s, joined at the points where two visual languages find common ground.

The result is a single typeface that belongs to both of them — and to neither entirely.

On the wall, a letter grid set in that typeface holds words in both Romanian and Polish, sharing the same letters, sitting in the same grid. Each word readable to its own speaker. Each word slightly foreign to the other.

Alongside it, diacritic stickers — fourteen marks drawn from both alphabets — wait to be placed by visitors. The wall is not finished. You are part of what it becomes.

This week: Ola Kot — designer, researcher and educator from Warsaw, specialising in typography, book design and spatial forms. She’ll walk us through a series of experimental projects that push typography beyond the static and the fixed — into installations, publications and collaborative works where type becomes a space of experience.

Join us for a talk by Ana Chiță presenting A Speculative Study of Romanian Graphic Design, a research project developed as part of her graduation show at Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK).

The presentation explores Romanian visual culture through print matter, archival research, and experimental publishing practices. Among the works presented is A Zine About Arrows — an exercise in understanding the visual language of Romanian communist-era periodical publications. The arrows were sourced from Almanahul Femeia (The Woman Almanac), Almanahul Auto (The Auto Almanac), Almanahul Flacăra (The Flame Almanac), and Știință și Tehnică (Science and Technology).

The project brings together screen printing, risograph printing, and an evolving digital archive developed over time.
