The kind of moment you cannot rush.
Some experiences lose something when they are squeezed into a tight schedule.
Gorilla trekking is one of them.
Because the moment itself is quiet.
Still.
Unexpectedly moving.
You are not watching from far away.
You are standing in the forest, fully present, noticing the small details — a glance, a shift in movement, the calm strength of the family around you.
That is why the journey before the trek matters more than many travelers expect. When the planning is thoughtful, the timing feels right, and the experience is not rushed, you arrive more able to take in what is happening in front of you.
At Five Islands Safaris Rwanda , we help shape the journey around gorilla trekking so it feels calmer, clearer, and better paced from the very beginning.

What wildlife photographers wish they knew before gorilla trekking.
Before the forest, before the first sighting, and long before the shutter clicks, a little preparation can make the experience feel calmer and more rewarding.
Three simple things many first-time wildlife photographers are glad to know:
No flash.
Flash photography is not allowed during gorilla trekking, so it helps to feel comfortable shooting in natural forest light.
Choose a flexible lens setup.
A 70–200 mm lens is often a strong choice for gorilla photography, while a 24–70 mm can be helpful for wider forest moments and storytelling around the journey.
Start with a higher ISO than you expect.
In the forest, light can change quickly. Many photographers begin around ISO 800 to 1600 to stay ready for the moment.
Good wildlife photography here is not only about camera gear. It is also about arriving prepared, moving calmly through the forest, and being present when the moment appears.

There are moments in a journey that stay with you forever.
For many couples, gorilla trekking in Rwanda becomes one of them — not just an activity, but a deeply emotional shared experience in the heart of Volcanoes National Park.
We know that planning something like this can come with questions:
Will it feel rushed?
Will it be too demanding?
Will we be part of a large group?
That’s why the way the experience is planned matters.
For honeymooners, gorilla trekking can be shaped to feel more personal, more comfortable, and more meaningful. In some cases, there is also the possibility to arrange a more exclusive trekking experience, offering greater privacy and a quieter pace in the forest.
And just as important as the trek itself is what comes before and after.
simply time to take in what you’ve just experienced.
Because a honeymoon is not only about where you go,
but how you experience it together.

For photographers, gorilla trekking is rarely just about the image.
It is about everything that can make a once-in-a-lifetime moment feel harder to reach than it should — the planning, the timing, the uncertainty, and the pressure of wanting to get it right when the experience matters this much.
When the light is perfect, the forest falls quiet, and a gorilla looks back at you, you do not want to be thinking about rushed logistics or whether the journey was put together well enough to fully enjoy it.
We help shape a calmer gorilla trekking journey in Rwanda — with a boutique base near Volcanoes National Park, personal support around the stay, and the kind of comfort that lets you stay present for the moment you came for.
Because the best wildlife photographs do not begin with your camera.
They begin with how the experience feels.
