إن إتاحة الوصول إلى البيئة المبنية هي إحدى الخدمات التي يحق للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة الاستفادة منها. ومن المؤسف أن معايير تصميم المباني الشامل للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة لا ينطبق على مباني الخدمات العامة في السودان، حيث يواجه ذوو الإعاقة في السودان تحديات كبيرة في الوصول إلى المباني العامة.
الخبر السار هو أن معايير البناء السوداني للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة قد تم تطويرها من قبل مهندسين متطوعين تحت رعاية المجلس القومي للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، ولكن لم يتم تفعيله بعد.
لتسهيل الوصول الآمن إلى مباني الخدمات العامة للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة في السودان، يجب تحديد الحواجز التي تحول دون إمكانية الوصول بشكل صحيح ومعالجتها وإزالتها. وعلاوة على ذلك، فإن تعزيز قدرة أصحاب المصلحة من الحكومة والهيئات ذات الصلة مطلوب من أجل المشاركة بشكل أفضل في عملية تحويل المباني القائمة إلى "مباني صديقة للأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة".

Accessibility to the built environment is one of the services that persons with disabilities are entitled to benefit from. Unfortunately, the standards for inclusive building design for persons with disabilities do not apply to public service buildings in Sudan, as persons with disabilities in Sudan face significant challenges in accessing public buildings. The good news is that the Sudanese Building Standards for Persons with Disabilities have been developed by volunteer engineers under the auspices of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, but have not yet been activated.

To facilitate safe access to public service buildings for persons with disabilities in Sudan, barriers to accessibility need to be properly identified, addressed and removed. Furthermore, capacity building of stakeholders from government and relevant bodies is required to better engage in the process of transforming existing buildings into “disability-friendly buildings”.
