What does “perfect frosting” look like during Q-switched Nd:YAG tattoo removal? ❄️
A good immediate endpoint during Q-switched Nd:YAG laser tattoo removal is a light, uniform white “frosting” over the treated ink. This typically appears within seconds after a correct pulse.
✅ Perfect frosting =
• Even, thin whitening over the tattooed area
• Matches the spot pattern (no patchy “overcooked” zones)
• Develops quickly and then fades over minutes
• Often comes with mild swelling and redness around it (normal)
🔬 Why does frosting happen?
It’s caused by rapid heating and micro steam formation in the superficial skin layers after the laser energy hits the ink (a sign the energy interacted with the target).

5. Some believe sunscreen increases skin cancer risk, but this is a myth. Sunscreen protects against UV rays the main cause of DNA damage, sunburn, and skin cancer. Research shows that regular use actually lowers the risk of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
