We have conquered distances, mapped the human genome, connected every corner of the globe to a single network. But when the sudden halt comes: a test result, an unexpected pain, a loved one resting behind a closed door, all that technological armor falls away. We are all eventually reduced to the same solitary figure at the end of a long, shadowed hallway, waiting for a word.

As I walked, I thought about the people I’ve loved & the friends who drifted away, not necessarily from anger or a dramatic falling out, but from the quiet, relentless pull of time and distance. We are all just colliding orbits, sometimes syncing up for a few beautiful years, sometimes just brushing past each other.

I watched the shadows stretch across the pavement, turning every mundane object into a dark, elongated giant. The sidewalk was no longer concrete, it was a series of islands & straits. Shadow was eager to reach the corner before I did.
