BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF NEWLY ESTABLISHED MILLENNIUM CHALLENGE ACCOUNT SIERRA LEONE HOLDS INAUGURAL MEETING, APPROVES NDEYE SESAY AS CEO

The Millennium Challenge Account–Sierra Leone (MCA-SL), established by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone to implement the USD 500 million Sierra Leone Energy Compact, convened its inaugural Board of Directors meeting on Friday, January 23, at the Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.
Chaired by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, the MCA-SL Board comprises representatives from civil society, the private sector, and the Government of Sierra Leone. The Board is tasked with providing strategic oversight and governance to ensure the successful implementation of the MCC-funded compact, which aims to strengthen Sierra Leone’s energy sector and drive sustainable economic growth.
In his opening remarks, Vice President Jalloh welcomed the Board members and expressed his delight at the historic occasion. He described the inaugural meeting as a watershed moment that signals the commencement of implementation activities for the long-awaited compact. He further emphasized that the initiative represents renewed hope for the future of U.S.–Sierra Leone relations and assured MCC representatives and Board members of his unwavering commitment to the compact’s success.
During the meeting, the Board swiftly moved to adopt several key resolutions. Chief among them was the unanimous approval of the recruitment of Ndeye Fatu Sesay as Chief Executive Officer of MCA-SL. Her appointment marks a critical step in the operationalization of the newly established MCA.
Prior to the adoption of resolutions, Board members participated in an orientation session conducted by MCC. The training provided guidance on their roles and responsibilities as directors overseeing the implementation of the Sierra Leone Energy Compact, ensuring alignment with international best practices in governance and accountability.
The establishment of MCA-SL and the convening of its inaugural Board meeting underscore Sierra Leone’s commitment to advancing the much-needed intervention in addressing the country’s energy problems. With leadership now in place, MCA-SL is poised to begin implementation activities that will transform the country’s energy landscape and contribute to long-term development goals.
