SLFA, FIFA Launch First-ever Goalkeeping Coaches Training

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in partnership with FIFA, has launched the first-ever elite training workshop for former goalkeepers aimed at strengthening coaching standards in the country.

The five-day training, held under the theme "Supporting youth goalkeeper coaches to build a bright future for tomorrow’s superstars," brings together 16 participants from male and female Premier League clubs as well as regional divisions.

The workshop is being facilitated by FIFA goalkeeping experts Alejandro Alex Heredia and Cameron Cammy Cox, who are equipping participants with modern coaching techniques and practical skills.

Speaking at the opening on Monday 13th April 2026, SLFA General Secretary Ing. Mohamed Benson Bawoh said the training is part of efforts to improve the technical side of football in Sierra Leone. He urged participants to take the training seriously and use it to positively impact goalkeeping development nationwide.

FIFA instructor Heredia noted the evolving role of goalkeepers in modern football, noting that they now play a key part in both defence and attack.

In his keynote address, SLFA Vice President 1 Alie Badara Tarawallie reaffirmed the association’s commitment to improving football governance and developing talent across the country.

"The training is part of SLFA's efforts to develop a robust coaching structure and improve the overall standard of football in Sierra Leone," the VP1 ended.
