In overcrowded communities and IDP camps, poor hygiene and unsafe water can quickly turn into deadly disease outbreaks, especially for children. To help families protect themselves, Wardi Relief and Development Initiatives', with support from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund, distributed 500 hygiene kits across Beledweyne. The kits included soap, sanitary towels, buckets, jerrycans, and Aqua Tabs to support safe water treatment, storage, and improved hygiene practices at the household level.
Through our , vulnerable families in the district are better equipped to keep their water clean, maintain safer living conditions, and reduce the risk of diseases in their communities.

For many families in Beledweyne, poor sanitation and open defecation have increased the spread of disease, especially during floods and rainy seasons.
To address this challenge, Wardi Relief and Development Initiatives', with support from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund, constructed 61 latrines across the district, including in IDP camps, helping families access safer and more dignified sanitation facilities.
“There were many diseases, especially during the rainy season, because of open defecation,” said Maryan Omar Hassan, who narrated the ordeal in Rajo 2 IDP camp.
Through the , these communities now have access to better sanitary facilities, promoting better hygiene practices and reducing the risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea among children.
