Tension has emerged within the Twic Mayardit community in Juba following an online dispute involving the community’s Secretary for Information, Atem Marou, and Akuot Wundit, a Twic Mayardit woman who recently returned from Australia.
According to online exchanges circulating on social media, Atem Marou allegedly engaged in a heated verbal confrontation with Akuot Wundit, a member of the same community he represents as Secretary for Information. The incident has sparked criticism from some members of the Twic Mayardit community, who argue that the conduct was unbecoming of a community leader.
The controversy has revived past accusations from critics who describe Atem Marou as having previously shifted allegiances between different political and community agendas. Some commentators claim this latest incident reflects a pattern of controversial behavior.
Several Twic Mayardit intellectuals have also used the situation to question the leadership of Angelo Ngot Mayardit, asking whether community leaders are adequately enforcing discipline and respect within their ranks.
One commentator posed a critical question online: “If a senior community leader publicly engages in verbal conflict with women from his own community, what example does that set for ordinary members?”
The dispute reportedly escalated further when allegations surfaced that Atem Marou instructed his wife to join the online attacks against Akuot Wundit.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the Twic Mayardit community leadership regarding the incident.
