Tasha’s exhibition ’Traffic’ has officially closed but the paintings will stay up and remain viewable till the end of the week. It’s at the Barın Han contemporary art gallery (Boyacı Ahmet Sokak No:4, Binbirdirek Mahallesi, Çemberlitaş, close to the Çemberlitaş stop (the stop after Sultanahmet) on the T1 tram line and a short walk from the Vezneciler stop on the M2 metro line) last week. Free entry. Open 10am-6pm every day. There are 2 other exhibitions running at Barın Han at the same time. Tasha’s is on the top floor. Her boldly coloured paintings are rich in zoomorphic depth.
Classes: Please check in with us before turning up for the classes and sessions below as we may move them according to what works best for the people who wish to come. We mostly work with small groups and try to give classes that work for all levels (feel free to say if you prefer a beginner’s class or a more advanced one or you’d like us to focus on a certain group of poses). Please let us know what works best for you; we'll try to accommodate. If you’re away from Istanbul, Tasha gives online classes by arrangement. If you pay for 5 classes in advance, the sixth one is free.
Workshops: Tasha’s visual art workshops and Nick's workshops and voice, and performative dance and theatre classes are mostly by request, please ask if interested.
Performers (Nick): I'm open to working (as director, writer or performer) with performers (dancers, actors, singers, performance artists, musicians, poets…) on dance-theatre, music and voice projects. Depending on the project, I'm happy to work without finance but commitment is essential. If interested, please get in touch. I’m happy to work in Turkish or English as well as other languages. Performance projects can be for solo performers or for performances involving more than one performer. My work aspires to be challenging and radical for both the performers and audiences.

Thursday 30.4 (evening open dance session?
dancing at dusk
with Nick
a dance session open to all who wish to open into dance; we dance freely, usually with not much verbal guidance, the musical and personal journey being the main guide, with music that changes each time, with genres and rhythms from all over the world; the sessions draw on ideas of notions of conscious and ecstatic movement, and moving meditation, and explore some of the many ways of dancing both alone and with each other, where formal technique is irrelevant, where spirit is primary, where unfamiliar rhythms and musical styles are embraced, and where confident dancers and the shyest of movers are equally welcome

What does it mean to be alone? This lecture explores the difference between solitude and loneliness at a time of constant stimulation and media saturation.
Drawing on a brief philosophical background and on the ways different thinkers have understood solitude, the lecture considers where we find ourselves in the contemporary world - among others, apart from them, or alone in their midst. Solitude emerges here as a vital inner space in which imposed influences may be loosened and in which one may return to oneself, regenerate,or even arrive at insight. These questions will be approached through Albrecht Dürer’s engraving Melencolia I and through the works of young contemporary artists.
Margarita Osepyan is a curator and researcher working between London and Istanbul. Her practice focuses on how meaning, perception, and subjectivity are shaped by language, embodiment and media across different cultural contexts. Over the past fifteen years, she has worked across independent and institutional settings, curating and developing projects internationally including SESC São Paulo, Vienna Festwochen, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Tate Modern and the Barbican Centre.
