Day 2 – Orientation on Emergency Preparedness and Flood Response in Morogoro Region

Today we continued with Day 2 of the Orientation Program on Emergency Preparedness and Flood Response organized through the collaboration between NCA and the Anglican Church Diocese of Morogoro. The training focused on strengthening the capacity of local stakeholders to respond effectively to emergencies, particularly flooding, which continues to affect many communities in Morogoro.

The orientation brought together representatives from several Local Government Authorities (LGAs), including Kilosa, Gairo, Mvomero, and Morogoro Municipal. These are key areas where our Economic Empowerment Programmes are currently being implemented, with a strong focus on food security and waste management as part of building resilient communities.

Using the latest data and seasonal outlook from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), the training emphasized the growing risks of flooding in Morogoro due to the area’s geographical characteristics and recurring heavy rainfall patterns. Participants discussed practical strategies for early preparedness, coordinated response, and community awareness to reduce the impact of floods on livelihoods, infrastructure, and food systems.

This orientation is an important step toward building stronger partnerships between faith-based institutions, local governments, and community programs to ensure timely, organized, and effective emergency response in Morogoro and surrounding districts.

It has been a privilege to host various visitors from NCA who have come to the Morogoro region to observe and learn how we implement our projects. These initiatives are carried out with the support of local structures (Agripreneurs and Coordinators), all working together under the umbrella of MVIRVICA and KIRVICA.
