BIOMEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY:
This is a field that provides professional expertise in biomedical laboratory science and technology. Biomedical lab technologists are scientists who do laboratory research. It is rated as one of the most marketable science courses. Graduates get employment opportunities in high tech medical research laboratories, NGOs and international research organisations.
Training:
Makerere University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine offers a three-year Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology degree evening programme. As part of the programme, the students must undergo an attachment placement that offers hands-on practical training. The attachment takes two forms depending on the interests of the student.

Hospital Series: This is a medically/clinically oriented attachment for students wishing to work in hospitals
lIndustrial, Research and Education
Series: This is an attachment for students wishing to work in industrial installations (processing and manufacturing), research, academic and educational institutions such as schools, universities, tertiary institutions and national agricultural research systems.
Requirements:
The core subjects required for the Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Science degree programme are Biology and Chemistry. Other relevant subjects are Physics, Mathematics, Geography, and Agriculture. Your subject combination, therefore, qualifies you for admission into this degree programme.

Career opportunities:
The demand for biomedical lab technologists is quite high, especially in medical research, food industry and industrial installation (processing and manufacturing).
Graduates of this programme get jobs with laboratory establishments as well as research-based organisations. Some of the graduates get into self-employment by opening up private research laboratories or by offering private consultancy services.
