The fight continues for the true meaning of freedom, justice and equality for all!
Rep. Bennie Thompson: When Black communities are surgically split up into numerous districts, so that they only make up a small percentage of the vote share in each district, their voice and vote lose their weight. https://ow.ly/bs7C50Z8f8f

Mississippi Matters and deserves so much more.
Two hundred fifty years ago, a group of colonists looked at a government that no longer answered to its people and decided they'd rather risk everything than live without a voice. That fight didn't end in 1776. It's been fought again and again, by every generation that refused to accept "not yet" as an answer to "when do I get my freedom."
So tonight, we raise a glass.
Here's to those who fought and died for our right to democracy. And here's to those who fight today to keep an administration from ruling by decree instead of by law.
Here's to those who stood in Philadelphia and declared their freedom on July 4th, 1776. And here's to those who waited a century more to finally hear the word "freedom" spoken over them on Juneteenth.
Here's to those who threw off a king who taxed them without giving them a voice, and to those today standing against a handful of billionaires who buy their way into writing the laws the rest of us have to live under.
Here's to those who refused to bow to a monarch who ruled by fear and loyalty, and to those refusing to bow today to leaders who treat dissent as disloyalty and the free press as the enemy.
Here's to those who fought so power would be checked by courts, by Congress, and by the people, and to those fighting today to keep any one man from deciding he's above all three.
Here’s to those who risked the high seas for a chance at a life of freedom, and to those today who risk everything, detention, separation, and an uncertain future, for that same chance under this flag.
Here's to those who crossed a bridge in Selma for the right to vote, and to those still fighting today to keep that vote from being quietly redrawn, purged, or priced out of reach.
Here's to those who looked out over Delta fields, coastal waters, and piney forests and knew, for the first time, that this land was truly home. And here's to those today fighting to keep that home from being paved over, drained dry, and sold off to data centers and unchecked greed.
Here's to those, right here in Mississippi, still demanding that freedom mean something for everyone who lives under this flag, not just the ones who already hold the power.
Two hundred fifty years is not just a history to look back on. It's a promise still being written, by every generation willing to pick up the pen. The Mississippi Democratic Party is proud to stand with everyone still writing it today.
Happy Independence Day, Mississippi.

One year ago, Cindy Hyde-Smith voted for the largest SNAP cut in history. Nearly 400,000 Mississippians rely on it to help put food on the table and thousands could lose that help.
💸 That’s the Cindy Tax: making it harder to afford groceries when families are already stretched thin.
