The King S**g is a cormorant endemic to New Zealand, only occurring in the Marlborough Sound of the South Island. There are just ~800 birds in the wild in 5 colonies! Our 11-day tour in October will visit one of these colonies, while we traverse both the North and the South Island. We had great views of the colorful Sri Lanka Blue Magpie on our previous lanka trip. This beautiful bird is adapted to hunting in the dense canopy, where it is highly active and nimble. Laughing Kookaburra — Australia’s largest kingfisher, a ground-hunting predator famed for its echoing, territorial “laugh.” Often seen perched on branches or fence posts, it feeds on insects, small reptiles and mammals, and uses its raucous dawn-and-dusk call to defend territory and communicate within family groups.
