Have you ever noticed how one small interaction, change, or moment can ripple outward in ways you never expected? That’s Ecological Systems Theory in action. Developed by psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner, it’s a framework that helps us understand how every individual exists within multiple, overlapping systems, from the personal to the global.

At the microsystem level is our families, friends, and the daily environments that shape how we think and act. The mesosystem connects those spaces, our home influencing our work, our community shaping our perspective. The exosystem includes the policies and infrastructures that impact us directly and indirectly, while the macrosystem represents our cultures, economies, and shared worldviews. And surrounding it all is the chronosystem is time itself an all the environemtnal changes that occur over a lifetime, reminding us that the only constant is change.

When we begin to examine ourselves this way, as part of living, interdependent systems, we can more clearly see how we are influenced by these systems and in turn can influence them.

At Radicle Earth this perspective shapes everything we do. Whether guiding organizations through transitions or helping individuals grow resilient practices, our goal is to make these overlapping systems tangible so we can design with holistic intentions.

What’s one system you’re part of that you hadn’t considered before personally or professionally?

Radicle Earth began as one small seed, the question: How can we create sustainable action?

Each week, we'll share content that builds like a micro lesson. This provides an opportunity to explore in-depth complex concepts, systems, and solutions one at a time. These aren’t random posts; they’re designed to build upon themselves daily like steps in a learning journey intended to deepen our understanding of what sustainable living means, collectively and individually.

Why? Because sustainability isn’t learned in a single moment it’s cultivated through reflection, practice, and connection. And because our lives depend on it. Humans won’t have space on this wonderful planet if we don’t create actionable, informed steps to sustain ourselves here.

This week, I’m reflecting on the roots that shaped Radicle Earth because you deserve to know the why and how of our services.

I invite you to grow with us. Be sure to follow to gain this knowledge and to stay up to date with our services. Ready to grow now? Check out our website, radicle-earth.com, to find our consulting packages and workshop facilitation.

Our work in Albuquerque and the East Mountains takes place on lands that have been cared for by Native communities for generations, long before colonization, and will continue to be cared for long into the future. Today and every day, Radicle Earth honors the Indigenous peoples whose lands we live and work on, including the Tiwa Pueblos of Isleta and Sandia, as well as nearby Santa Ana, San Felipe, Kewa (Santo Domingo), and Cochiti Pueblos, the Jicarilla and Mescalero Apache Tribes, and the Diné (Navajo Nation).

We recognize that true sustainability begins with justice and that Indigenous sovereignty and land stewardship are essential to ecological balance. The Land Back movement calls for the return of land to Indigenous stewardship as a means of healing the planet, restoring ecosystems, and rectifying the harms of colonization.

We encourage learning from and supporting Indigenous-led initiatives that are leading the way toward a more equitable and sustainable future.

We honor the ongoing presence, leadership, and resistance of Indigenous peoples in New Mexico and across Turtle Island. May our work always reflect gratitude, respect, and reciprocity.
