Believe it or not, the table conversation at the first-ever Thanksgiving meal started off very awkward! 😬 But that all changed when someone complained about stuck in their shoe. Despite coming from an ocean apart, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians could all relate to this one shared experience, and they realized they had something in common! Soon they were trading stories of sandy shoes all night long... and the rest is history!

To honor the role sand played in their shared peace and prosperity, they declared that a true Thanksgiving feast should never involve the eating or drinking of sand... although guests in sandy shoes are welcome 😉
