Just like a blizzard can still hit in mid-March, GenAI can hit organizations that "don't use AI." Maybe you're in a time crunch and use it in pinch. Maybe employees are using consumer options like ChatGPT (shadow IT/AI). Maybe your existing software vendors added AI features with risks you haven't fully considered. I'll be talking with Scott Weisman of Chicago's LaunchPad Lab on a webinar about these risks this Wednesday, so sign up soon.

Using AI and Avoiding the Landmines 03/13/2026

On April 2, we'll be presenting with JKA of Des Moines. We want to talk to Iowa mid-sized businesses who are considering whether they are ready to adopt generative AI intentionally while understanding the risks.

Using AI and Avoiding the Landmines How Owners Are Buying Productivity and Managing AI Risk

I made a game to demonstrate the risks of letting LLMs "help" you write (without proper controls). This example is from law, but could impact any important document. In a recent Connecticut case, an attorney used AI not for research but for writing help. That still caused trouble. In a Minnesota case last year, something similar happened to an expert witness. I hope you try this out and learn something. (I know the GIF is fast. I'm trying not to give away the answers!) Please let me know what you think, because I am planning to make more hands-on training tools like this.

The Legal Reality of AI in Your Organization
Your employees are using AI right now. The question is whether your company is prepared for the legal consequences.

From confidentiality breaches when staff pastes sensitive data into AI tools, to copyright questions around AI-generated content, to liability when AI produces false information that harms customers, the legal landscape of business AI use is complex and evolving fast.

In this session, Scott Weisman and Chad Ratashak break down where real liability exists, what regulators and courts are focusing on, and how to build policies and training programs that protect your company while still enabling responsible AI adoption.

This webinar is about informed decision-making. AI can deliver real value, but only if you understand the rules of the road.

What You’ll Learn
Why “we don’t use AI” is often untrue and risky
Confidentiality and trade secret risks in everyday AI tools
Copyright and IP considerations for AI-generated content
Liability exposure when AI outputs cause harm
