Taking Part in Clinical Research
What is a Research Study?
A Research study, also called a clinical trial, is a study in which medical researchers look at new ways to prevent, detect, or treat a disease
Research studies are necessary to learn whether a new treatment works and is safe
What is Informed Consent?
Informed consent is a process in which you are given information about a study so that you can decide if you want to participate
You will receive an informed consent form that explains the study you might qualify for. Read the form carefully and ask any questions you may have about the study.
If you agree to take part, you'll need to sign the informed consent form to show that you understand the study and its possible risks and benefits
What If I change my mind?
If you change your mind about taking part in the study, you can leave the study at any time, for any reason. Talk to the study doctor about your treatment options
Taking part in a clinical trial can be a rewarding experience
