In Massachusetts, the Home Modification Loan Program (HMLP) is an invaluable resource. Initiated by the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission over 20 years ago, it offers 0% interest, deferred-payment loans of up to $50,000. These loans typically require no monthly payments and are only repaid when the home is sold. Please note that the program does not reimburse for construction that has already started or been completed.

Eligible modifications include:

- Wheelchair ramps, vertical platform lifts, and elevators
- Low-curb and barrier-free showers
- Complete bathroom and kitchen remodels
- Widened doorways
- Sensory and therapy rooms
