Here are some important facts about vital signs! 🫀Heart Rate🫀 The # of times the heart contracts each minute (beats per minute) Normal: 60 - 100 bpm ↑ HR = Tachycardia ↓ HR = Bradycardia 🩸Blood Pressure 🩸 Blood pressure is the pressure applied on the walls of the arteries during ventricular systole & diastole (THINK: systolic/diastolic values) Normal: 120 / 80 mmHg (varies based on the pt) ↑ BP = Hypertension ↓ BP = Hypotension 💨Oxygen saturation 💨 Percentage (%) of hemoglobin that is bound to oxygen Normal: 95 - 100% Low levels = hypoxia 🫁Respiratory Rate 🫁 The number of breaths taken per minute (remember: when assessing, one inhale + one exhale = 1 full breath!) Normal: 12 - 20 breaths/min Rapid breathing = Hyperventilation Depressed breathing = Hypoventilation 🌡️Temperature 🌡️ The body’s ability to regulate heat Normal: 97.8°F – 99°F (36.5°C - 37.2°C) 🔥100.4F or higher is considered a fever ↑ body temperature = Hyperthermia or fever ↓ body temperature = hypothermia 😞Pain 😞 Subjective data given to you by the patient Rating scale: 0 - 10 ❓What do we consider when checking oxygen saturation on patients with COPD?
