Had the great opportunity to replace closet shelving. The original shelving was the wire type shelving that most homes in the area have. They work for the most part and serve the purpose. The original shelving completely collapsed and ripped out of the wall.

Wire type shelving is prone to failure due to a few things;

1. Most, if not all, of the mounting hardware is secured with drywall anchors - not into the studs of the wall. While this is usually ok for lighter items or decorations, this usually isnt the best option for closets where we all tend to overload shelving and forget how heavy clothes really are.

2. The supporting brackets are very thin metal. They do not have much rigidity, so when they start to bend or buckle, its a cascading effect.

3. The amount of attachments needed can cause failure in the drywall itself. Every anchor point adds a hole in the drywall. When you start adding more anchors closer together, you're weakening the integrity of the drywall, where the anchors have less material to disperse the load.

However, we were able to upgrade to wooden shelves held up by brackets that are capable of supporting 600 lbs per set of brackets when installed into the stud of the wall. These shelves will last for the life of the home!
