New Television Drama Series

Auditions: March 2026

LYL Productions is now casting principal and supporting roles for its upcoming original drama series, The Grip.

Series Concept:

The Grip follows the interconnected lives of a diverse group of students at J.J. Mayor High School, located in the suburbs of Nashville. The series centers around a student-led debate group known as The Grip, which brings together teens from different social circles to confront major social, political, and cultural issues of today—while navigating personal struggles, relationships, and identity.

CASTING ROLES

Sadie Jones

Age: 16–26 | Caucasian | Female

A new sophomore transfer from Hartford, Connecticut. Sadie is intelligent, opinionated, and sharply witty. Raised by her mother, a former mayor, Sadie is conservative yet open-minded. She aspires to attend New York University. Love interest of Jacob.

Jacob Lenore

Age: 16–26 | Caucasian | Male

A senior and captain of the varsity basketball team. Jacob is laid-back, charming, and well-liked. He has little interest in college, believing it’s too expensive. Older brother to Anna and love interest of Sadie.

Anna Lenore

Age: 16–26 | Caucasian | Female

A sophisticated and poised sophomore. Anna is uninterested in sports or politics but passionate about women’s rights. She hopes to attend New York University and shares her brother’s natural charm.

David Montgomery (Mr. Montgomery)

Age: 21–31 | Caucasian | Male

An English teacher and founder of The Grip. David is direct, principled, and fiercely supportive of his students’ right to express their views—even when it puts him at odds with faculty. Highly respected by his students.

Trinity Jae

Age: 16–26 | African American | Female

A compassionate and driven sophomore and president of The Grip. Trinity is well-liked throughout the school and deeply committed to civil rights. During the first season, her character experiences an unplanned pregnancy.

Rose Marrow

Age: 16–26 | Mexican / Hispanic / Latina | Female

A sophomore with an edgy, darker personality. Rose dreams of pursuing a culinary career, loves to dance, and is determined to build a better future for her family.

Ahmad Fresco

Age: 16–26 | South Asian or African American | Male

A sophomore and member of the basketball team. Ahmad is outspoken, strongly anti-gun, and aspires to become a civil rights leader. He frequently records his surroundings and struggles with anger issues, which he manages through medication.

Tristain Thomas

Age: 16–26 | African American | Male

A laid-back sophomore and basketball player at J.J. Mayor High School. Tristain is charismatic, grounded, and well-respected among his peers. He shares a close bond with his mother, Towanda, and often serves as her emotional anchor. Son of Towanda Thomas.

Towanda Thomas

Age: 30–45 | African American | Female

Towanda is a hardworking single mother and mother of Tristain. Towanda had her son at a young age and is currently enrolled in nursing school. Determined and resilient, she is focused on creating a better life for her family. Towanda and Tristain share a strong, loving relationship.

Julie Jones

Age: 30–45 | Caucasian | Female

Sadie’s mother. A former mayor and recent divorcee, Julie is compassionate, community-focused, and struggling to adjust to a new chapter in life after relocating to Nashville for a fresh start.

Cheyenne Rivers

Age: 15–25 | Caucasian | Female

A freshman and the youngest member of The Grip. Cheyenne is fiercely conservative, pro-gun, and unapologetically outspoken. She enjoys hunting and horseback riding and is tough, confident, and unafraid of confrontation.

Jesse is Ty’s roommate—a wealthy, charming Beverly Hills kid with a rebellious streak. Accepted into UC Berkeley largely due to family influence, Jesse is a baseball player, heartthrob, and frequent rule-breaker. Though often cocky and reckless, he reveals a softer, loyal side with those he truly cares about. Jesse majors in pre-law, despite being wildly unsuited for it.

VANESSA VANCOUVER

Female | Age 21–31 | Caucasian | Brunette

Vanessa is Jesse’s childhood best friend—intelligent, grounded, and genuinely kind. A pre-med major, she values peace, honesty, and meaningful connections. Often found studying or socializing at coffee shops, Vanessa has little patience for arrogance and isn’t impressed by show-offs.

Vanessa Vancouver: (Age 21-31, Caucasian, Female, Brunette)
Vanessa is one of the friends. Vanessa is the child hood friend of Jesse, and is very genuine. She majors in pre-med, and loves to hang out with people at the coffee shop. Vanessa is all for keeping the peace, and is very intelligent. Vanessa doesn’t like guys who are full of themselves.
