The Pineapple Upside-Down Cake cocktail is a fun vodka-based shooter that, while not the most sophisticated drink in the world, is sweet, tasty, and a popular serve.
The Pineapple Upside-Down Cake shot is a layered shot, with bright-red grenadine at the bottom and pineapple juice on top to emulate the look of an actual pineapple upside-down cake. And all without having to bake anything or even turn on your oven.
Some Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Shot recipes call for vanilla vodka (or other flavored vodka), which is also a totally acceptable option. This isn't a drink where you really need to worry about subtlety, so feel free to mess around with all kinds of different ingredients and variations. However, the traditional recipe includes just three simple ingredients: vodka, pineapple juice, and grenadine.
Add the grenadine to a shot glass, then shake the vodka and pineapple juice with ice. Strain the contents of the shaker into the shot glass, slowly layering the liquid over the grenadine to create the two-tone effect. You may want to pour the shaken vodka and pineapple over the back of a spoon, which helps the liquid to layer softly on top of the grenadine without disrupting the visual.
Note that some people choose to garnish their Pineapple Upside-Down Cake shots with a maraschino cherry. This adds another visual element, but we find that garnishing a shot usually just gets in the way of drinking it. If you love cherries, you may enjoy downing the shot and then eating the cherry as a chaser.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
A shot glass
INGREDIENTS
1 ounce vodka
0.5 ounce pineapple juice
0.25 ounce grenadine
PREPARATION
Add grenadine to a two-ounce shot glass.
Add vodka and pineapple juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
Slowly strain into the shot glass over a spoon (to layer) and serve.
Enjoy & Cheers 🥂
