WHAT WE DO
Just as the original mafia takes care of its own, MIDM deploys to HBCU campuses to take care of OUR own. Enter the Move-In Day Mafia! We need YOU!

πŸ™‹πŸΎ So you want to join the mob? Here's how. πŸ‘Š

No criminal activity required. Only criminal levels of generosity. πŸ˜‚πŸ–€

Move-In Day Mafia has FOUR ways you can become a Mafia Miracle Maker β€” and one of them was made for you:

πŸƒπŸΎ Move-In Season Volunteer
You physically show up on HBCU campuses in late summer/fall. You carry boxes, hang decor, deep clean dorms, and help transform empty rooms into homes. This is for the ones who need to feel the mission in their hands.

πŸ“¦ Care Package Mafioso (CPM)
You live near an HBCU. You receive bulk shipments, sort items into personalized packages, and hand-deliver them monthly to scholars. You become their bonus Auntie or Uncle. This is for the ones who want ongoing, face-to-face connection.

🀝 Student Support Team Mentor
You want direct, meaningful contact with scholars. You check in twice a month, provide emotional support, and become their accountability anchor. This pathway requires a full background check β€” because these students deserve safe relationships.

πŸ’» Year-Round Volunteer
You handle admin, social media, fundraising, and outreach from wherever you are. This is for the ones whose superpower is behind the scenes.

Which role is calling your name? πŸ‘‡ Drop it in the comments and tag someone who needs to join this mob. πŸ‘Š

It’s still Adopt-A-Scholar week!

Let me share what some of our other scholars are up to this summer…

G.T. β€” Paul Quinn College: She got hired full-time at Wells Fargo. And she is getting her first apartment. G.T. is walking all the way into adulthood and she is ready.

W.N. β€” Delaware State University: just left for a Walt Disney internship.

D.J. β€” Spelman College: She landed an internship at Northwestern University in Chicago.

W.A. β€” Savannah State University: She started her internship at Prevention Point Philadelphia, a nonprofit that serves the unhoused and addicts.

A.J. β€” Fisk University: Hands-on learning job in San Jose, California. She made her choice and she is going.

L.M. β€” Lane College: Accepted into the Summer Research STEM Academy. Housing solidified. Doing science with a place to sleep. Both matter.

Z.W. β€” Prairie View A&M University: She has offers at both MD Anderson and UT Texas and at the time of this email, she is deciding between the two.

B.N. β€” Prairie View A&M University: Studying abroad in Barbados.

H.K. β€” Florida A&M University: Presenting her research at Florida State this summer. Getting paid to do it. Moving into her first apartment. And working on her driver's license before August.

S.D. β€” Prairie View A&M University: Plans to go to Honduras with a friend's family. Learning day trading and studying for her life and health insurance license.

D.F. β€” North Carolina A&T University: Heading to DC with the National Foster Youth Institute. Shadowing a congressman. Working with delegates on advocacy for young people who've been in foster care. She is using her own story to change policy.

This is what Adopt A Scholar Week is funding. Not just items on a wishlist. The whole trajectory.

Today is the second-to-last day. If you haven't grabbed something yet, ain't no day like today.

THANK YOU, MAFIA MIRACLE MAKER!

Our student, M.C., is a rising junior at Morehouse College.

His mom has a serious immune system condition. His brothers have autism. His bio dad is in jail. In 6th grade, M.C. was homeless. His family lived in a hotel.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, M.C. decided he was going to Morehouse.

I love the fact that our scholars continue to dream in the midst of trying circumstances.

Not only did he land at Morehouse but our baby fooled around and got himself a scholarship!

His freshman year, he was working at Chipotle. That's how he kept himself going while Move-In Day Mafia made sure he had what he needed to get started.

And just last semester, he completed an internship with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. This month, he asked for a white dress shirt and dress shoes.

Somebody already grabbed his shirt. Now all he needs is the shoes to go with it.

If $43.99 isn't where you are right now, his list has other items too. Wash cloths. A duffle bag. A phone case. There's something for every budget.

Every student deserves a fresh start, not an empty room! πŸŽ“βœ¨

For many foster care students, college is their first real chance at stabilityβ€”but without essentials, their dorm feels anything but home. We’re here to change that by providing brand-new bedding, toiletries, school supplies, and more to ensure they start strong and feel supported.

πŸ”Ή Be the reason a student thrivesβ€”donate, volunteer, or partner with us today! https://www.moveindaymafia.org/
