Are you preparing to start your medicare benefits? If so, here is a medicare rule that you need to know about. Different part A and B effective dates? In most cases, if Part B starts later than Part A, then the application for a Medicare Advantage plan MUST be completed in the month prior to the date Part B starts. For example: Part A was effective 1/1/2024 but Part B starts on 7/1/2024, then the application has to be completed during the month of June to be valid. You do not have a window beyond your Part B effective date UNLESS they have another valid SEP, for example SEPLEC (Losing Employer Coverage) which grants you a 2-month window from leaving your employer plan to join an MA plan or Medicare Supplement as Guaranteed Issue.
