Appetizers: Are They Essential? - Recently, my husband and I was invited to a BBQ. The hosts let us know that we could show up anytime (we showed up at 1:00 pm). They were still cleaning and preparing food (that's fine - right?). It's 4 pm, no food, it's 6 pm, no food. It's 7ish and food is ready (beans, ribs and BBQ chicken).

In a Black household, it was always suggested to eat before going out, you never know how the food will taste or if you will like anything. Don't show up hungry, even when the event is supposed to have food. Ironic right? However, how long is too long in having your guest wait for food? Should you offer some chips, dip, etc?

Respectfully, please have appetizers when you invite me over.
