P.K. Martin IV
Served district 9 in Gwinnett County from 2015 - 2021.
Almost immediately following the election last November, I’ve been getting a question from many, many people, “What’s next?” It is always in the political context, so on January 1, 2022, I thought I could shed some light.
So… What’s next? For now, next means continuing to be present in the life of my family. Being available for my wife and my two teenage children. The best part of 2021 was being able to be there on a much more regular basis. Next is being more present and more invested in my business, as we enter a time of tremendous growth in Lawrenceville, I’m excited about the growth that may mean for our insurance agency. Next is also being more invested at what I call the hyper-local level. Service at the state level is an incredible experience, but you deal with state level issues, and if you’re involved, then at some level you lose some focus on local issues. You can be aware and available, but you don’t have the same space on your calendar or in your head to be directly involved in many things on the ground. I have enjoyed beginning the process of diving back into local boards and groups to help solve issues and plan for the future of our town and county. Our family is enjoying a much deeper involvement in the work of our church in Lawrenceville, and being able to minister directly to those who need it in our community.
Will I be running for office in 2022? The short answer is no. As I’ve told many, I’m not closing that door, and I’m open to considering it if I feel that it is something that God is leading me towards. However, I don’t feel that is the direction for my life currently. There is no opportunity for me at state level with the new districts, and a statewide run is not in the cards for us as a family, and no I don’t want to run for Congress.
For now, I look forward to investing fully in my family, my business and my community. I’m enjoying my work on the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission, and look forward to serving the state in that capacity. Not all service is elected, and as an elected official, it can be hard to wrap your head around that. However, time away helps you realize how important volunteer service is and how much you have missed it.
Of course, I still have a connection or two, and I have continued to help those that come to me for assistance to the best of my ability, so if I can ever assist you in any way, please reach out.
Thank you all for your support over the years and your continued support I look forward to seeing you around town, maybe from time to time at the Capitol, or even maybe randomly running into you on a beach somewhere. I’m here, I’m invested and I continue to love our community.
Here’s to an amazing 2022!
Most Sincerely,
P.K.
