“This Jane’s Walk, taking place in Poncey-Highland, focuses on themes of Environment and History & Culture.
🌳 How does a patch of land become a park for everyone?
Join Amy Durrell for a 90-minute walk through a quiet corner of Freedom Park, tracing the land’s journey from 19th-century farmland to one of Atlanta’s most connected green spaces.
The walk shares stories of the people who lived here and the dedicated community effort that preserved this stretch of intown Atlanta for future generations.
Meet at the Peace Bell pavilion near the flags and circular drive of the Carter Library. Free parking is available at the Carter Center.
Amy Durrell leads history walks throughout Atlanta and is affiliated with Freedom Park, officially designated Atlanta’s Public Art Park in 2017. The park stretches across 130 acres, linking seven historic neighborhoods and serving as a venue for world-class public art installations.
About Jane’s Walk:
Jane’s Walk is an annual global festival honoring the legacy of urbanist, activist, and writer Jane Jacobs with free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities.
The festival promotes civic engagement and encourages leaders and participants to share stories about their communities and use walking as a means of connecting with their neighbors.”

Help us care for the young trees in John Lewis Flowering Forest in Freedom Park. This flowering forest was planted over the last 5 years to honor our late Congressman Lewis. The tree species we’ve selected begin to bloom in late winter as a timely celebration of Lewis’s birthday on February 21.
During this project we’ll w**d and refresh the mulch around as many of the over 1,000 recently planted trees as we can in 3 hours! Mulch around the trees protects them from damage by lawnmowers and w**deaters by supressing w**ds and it improves the overall soil health.

Freedom Park Conservancy tasked HBK Creative with developing a park-awareness campaign - one that would call out the things that make Freedom Park unique and worthy of community investment.
Branding for the park had already been established, including the tagline Freedom is Your Park. Expanding on that tagline was the perfect way to bring the park’s story, value, and impact into focus: Freedom is your ____ Park.
🪧Freedom is your LEGACY Park. Years-long civic activism by intown neighbors stopped highways from cutting through historic communities and transformed the scar of highway demolition into Freedom Park’s 130 acres of greenspace.
🎨Freedom is your ART Park. Freedom Park is Atlanta’s designated Art Park,
with temporary and permanent installations throughout.
🚲Freedom is your INTOWN GREENWAY Park. Freedom Park is Atlanta’s car-free intown connector and largest linear park. It links more than 7 intown neighborhoods!
✌️Freedom is your NOBEL PEACE Park. From The Carter Center to The King Center, Freedom Park is the only park in the world connecting two Nobel Peace Centers.
HBK developed the colorful, bold visual concept, taking cues from design elements in Freedom Park’s branding package developed by Perkins + Will. It translated beautifully into physical campaign elements that can now be seen throughout the park.
