Drug overdose deaths in the United States surpassed 100,000 in a 12-month period for the first time in history. The number of overdose deaths rose 29 percent, from 78,056 from April 2019 to April 2020, to 100,306 in the following 12 months.

The overlap of the ongoing overdose epidemic and the Covid-19 pandemic has left its mark on the U.S. A CDC report, published in July, concluded that the combination of Covid and overdose deaths was the reason life expectancy in 2020 plunged by the largest one-year drop since World War II.

We are in the midst of a rampant, deadly crisis that is killing people at epidemic proportions. It affects all backgrounds, ethnicities, age groups, sexual orientations, as well as those in every social and economic status. It does not discriminate.

Sadly we lost Allie Shead to an accidental overdose on 01/02/22 and this disease continues to tear communities apart and destroy families left and right. The time has come for all of us to come together and stand in solidarity to combat this evil and stop this epidemic dead in its tracks. No more turning a blind eye. No more ignoring the elephant in the room. No more discriminating. The time to come together is now... We are at War.
