The PSOAS Muscle is not very well known and is one of the Biggest causes of LBP (low back pain). When left untreated it can lead to severe muscular imbalance.
Since it sandwiches the spine and is the main hip flexor of the body it is an extremely important muscle to keep stretched out and strong.
When the Psoas gets tight it will do one of two things. It will either
1.) Pull the spine and rib cage down toward your hips
or
2.) Pull the hip up towards your rib cage.
In either case it causes pain that can be severe.
This pain will be felt in the abdomen close to the belly button. It can refer into the low back near your SI joint( sacroiliac joint). Also, down into the front of the thigh where the tendon attaches into the femur.
You can stretch this muscle to release trigger points and alleviate the pain but they may need to be addressed through massage therapy in order to fully release.
I will post stretches in the comments.
Who had had LBP? Do you know about the Psoas muscle? If so, What do you do to treat it?
