At Legacy Park, a greener Decatur comes to life. Its protected forests, meadows, and wetlands aren’t just beautiful, they’re vital habitat. Thanks to thoughtful stewardship, this 77-acre community asset has become a thriving refuge for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife.

By preserving and restoring these natural spaces, Legacy Decatur is helping ensure that nature has a lasting home in the heart of our city.

A greener Decatur doesn’t happen by accident—it grows from intention, partnership, and care. From restoring the Legacy Park forest to hosting native plant sales and cultivating community gardening, Legacy Decatur is helping nurture a city where sustainability takes root. Whether it’s planting pollinators, supporting local food systems, or simply creating places for nature to thrive, we’re proud to be part of what makes Decatur greener—together.

What’s Your Legacy?

Legacy Decatur is a 501(c)(3) foundation established in Decatur, Georgia, in 2015.

As a distinct nonprofit aligned closely with the City of Decatur and its community vision, Legacy Decatur offers a flexible framework for connecting elected officials with community leaders and motivated citizens in support of legacy-oriented initiatives.

Within the City’s strategic plan are certain goals requiring grassroots community organizing or otherwise falling outside the more traditional business of government. Legacy Decatur provides an alternate and complementary vehicle by which individuals and organizations can personally contribute — as donors or volunteers — to meeting these goals, and through which grants and other forms of funding can be pursued.

In 2015, the organization received its 501(c)(3) status as the Decatur Legacy Project to facilitate the planning, community engagement, and fundraising efforts associated with the city’s 2023 bicentennial celebrations. Operating now as Legacy Decatur, it’s since broadened its mission and, with that, its focus.
